Commercial Free Policy School
Plás Mhuire Boys National School's Policy on Commercialism.
In the light of
- The Department of Education and Science’s position (Circular 38/91) that schools should not tell parents to direct their spending towards any particular
Company
- The statement in the revised curriculum for Social Personal and Health Education that
“the child should be enabled to
- become aware of the different forms of advertising, its purpose and the message it promotes
- become increasingly critical and discerning in his/her own attitude to advertising and the techniques
used to promote products, life-styles and ideas"
we will
- refuse to participate in any scheme which involves
the pupils or teachers in the collection of vouchers
- attempt to minimise the use of classroom materials – posters, books etc. – which contain company or other commercial logos
